Above-knee amputation, also known as transfemoral amputation, is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of a leg above the knee joint due to severe injury, infection, or disease. The remaining limb is typically fitted with a prosthetic device to restore function and mobility.

Below-knee amputation is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the lower leg, typically below the knee joint. This procedure is performed to treat severe infections, injuries, or diseases that affect the lower leg and cannot be managed with conservative treatments.
